And in the beginning... The wheels started turning back in 1995, when we first discovered "internet radio". With dial-up speeds and first-generation encoders, the sound wasn't very good, but we somehow knew this was the beginning of something big! In 1999 we started a radio program syndication service, using Wide Area Networking, as opposed to satellite, to distribute content to traditional radio stations. We decided that an internet stream was a great way to "show off" what we had to offer; well, we thought it was a great idea - until we started pricing internet streaming providers! The limited number of providers at that time were charging unbelievably high prices - our demo stream wound up being hosted on our office DSL connection, hoping no more than 3 people would ever tune in at one time and crash the whole system. In 2004 we started planning our own online station, and needed a reliable AND reasonably priced stream hosting company that could scale upward as our listening audience grew. By that time there were lots of companies to choose from, but they all fit into one of two categories: 1 - Professional, reliable hosting companies with VERY high prices. 2 - Low priced operations with virtually no customer service.
